Preventing the Spread of Germs

Parents: As you know our county has seen an increase in illnesses the past few weeks with the most common being strep throat and the flu. As a reminder to prevent the spread of germs you can do the following...

Pre-K Pre-Registration and Enrollment
Pre-K pre-registration and enrollment for the 2017-18 school year will be on February 27-March 10. Call 304-684-2215 to pre-register and receive a registration packet. Enrollments will be conducted on May 18th and 19th at Belmont Elementary and St. Marys Elementary Schools by Appointment.
Superintendent's Message - February 2017
I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. It is really hard to believe that it is February 2017 already. The weather has been odd this year with the temperatures being extremely warm or really cold. We will continue to keep our students’ safety our number one priority as decisions are made this winter in regards to school closings. Remember that Pleasants County has ten (10) days built in the school calendar; including Spring Break, before we would have to add days on the end of the 2016-2017 school calendar.
New Lockdown Procedure (A.L.I.C.E.)
Pleasants County Schools has adopted a new strategy for lockdown procedure known as the A.L.I.C.E. plan. A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate.  Prior to the A.L.I.C.E. plan, lockdown procedures involved the staff locking their doors, moving the students to a part of the room where they could not be seen, and quietly remaining there until an “all clear” announcement was given.  The A.L.I.C.E. plan offers a different philosophy in light of school violence.  The philosophy of A.L.I.C.E. is to use technology and information in a way so that staff and students can make informed decisions in a crisis, remove as many people as possible from the danger zone, and provide realistic training so that those involved in a crisis have a better chance of surviving.
Pleasants County School Grades
The 2015-2016 school year for Pleasants County Schools brought about numerous success stories. Overall, our students made significant improvements on the state General Summative Assessments and were ranked 14th in the state in English Language Arts (ELA). In addition, our daily attendance rate increased and our high school graduation rate ranked very high in the state and nationally with a 94% average
WVDE Releases School A-F Designations
West Virginia’s accountability system is designed to give parents and communities an annual update on multiple components that show how well students are learning, growing and achieving. An A-F grading scale is used to show where schools are succeeding and areas that need improvement.
New Health Requirements

All incoming 2nd grade students, pre-k students, and newly enrolled kindergarten students are required by State Board Policy 2423: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Section 5, to provide a complete and current Health Check form AND dental form at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  Proof of a physical exam by a doctor and a dental exam by a dentist is required.  Forms are available on the PCS website or from your doctor or dentist.  Your child may also provide a signed slip from the medical provider in lieu of the forms if he/she has had an exam within one year of enrollment...
