Superintendent's Message - Back to School 2019-2020

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all staff, students and parents as we begin another great year in Pleasants County Schools! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer filled with fun and relaxation. I must take a moment to thank the maintenance crew, custodians, volunteers, and administrators for working diligently to complete summer projects.  Our schools look great. We take great pride in our facilities and it certainly shows in all our schools. Construction projects are continuing throughout the summer and fall, which include: HVAC units and a new roof above the kitchen/cafeteria, restroom renovations at St. Marys Elementary, HVAC units in the Pre-K Wing at Belmont Elementary and a new hot water tank at Pleasants County Middle School.  Also, the upgrades to the storm water management system at St. Marys High School will begin soon...

WVDE math4life Campaign

We are pleased to announce the establishment of math4life: West Virginia's Pre-K—Grade 12 Campaign for Mathematics Achievement. While there is much work to be done to support mathematics achievement in our state, the West Virginia Department of Education and collaborative partners are committed to support a comprehensive effort to elevate mathematics achievement for all students. Information is provided here detailing the states efforts - a true PreK-Grade 12 Campaign for Mathematics Achievement - to close the mathematics achievement gap. A five-year external evaluation will occur to determine the short and long-term impacts of this initiative. The contractors for this evaluation will be selected via an RFP that will be available in the future.

Children who are healthy do better in school, live longer, have more productive lives and higher self-esteem. Please work with your child’s medical provider, Dentist and school to make sure your child has a great future and healthy smile! Starting in the 2018/19 school year, new students entering PreK or Kindergarten and students entering grades 2, 7 and 12 should show proof of a dental examination and HealthCheck/comprehensive health examination prior to entry into school. Welcome Back

Welcome to the opening of another school year!  As you are aware, Pleasants County Schools take great pride in maintaining a tradition of excellence.  As superintendent, I challenge our faculties to take ownership of their schools, to foster a school climate that is nurturing and a culture that does not accept failure.  I encourage our students to become actively involved in their studies and in the extracurricular activities at their school.  On the same token, I encourage parents to play an active role in their child's education both at home and at school.  Collectively we can accomplish great work and our students will be very successful.  At the start of each school year, I think it is important we remind parents of certain district policies that are impactful for every student as follows: More +
